Rev. Myron D. Hill

Of all of the 500 plus AME pastors in SC, The Rev. Myron D. Hill, Pastor of Cypress Chapel AME Church, Abbeville was chosen as the Pastor of the Year by the Lay Organization of Seventh Episcopal District (State of SC) of African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church.

The organized lay of the church is all non-clergy members.

In the AME Church, the 7th Episcopal District comprises the state of SC. SC is broken down into 6 regional bodies called Annual Conferences.

Each of the Annual Conferences chose a pastor of the year. To be considered for such an honor, members of a local church who are not officers submitted letters of endorsement for the pastor.

Three members of Cypress submitted letters expressing why they felt Pastor Hill should be honored as Pastor of the Year. Rev. Hill was the regional winner for the Piedmont SC Annual Conference.

Once the six conference winners were determined, a team of Lay Members from across SC reviewed letters and other credentials to select the overall winner of the state.

With stiff competition from the other five winners, Rev. Hill was chosen as the Pastor of the Year for AMEs in SC at the Lay Organization Annual Convention held at Allen University on June 4, 2019.
