Santa Email

It’s not too early to get an email off to Santa Claus. Children can reach the jolly old elf thanks to an email set up by the Gazette and Summerville Communications. Send letters to santa@journalscene.com. It may take a day or two, but Santa has promised to answer every email letter he receives before Christmas Eve.

Tea and History

At 2 p.m. on Dec. 13, the Summerville Dorchester Museum will present the Afternoon Tea and History Talk at Baker’s Garden BBQ Kitchen, 807 Central Ave. Summerville. The talk will be about women and their part of the local male dominated history of the 1900s. The ‘Fair Ones’ were wives, mothers, professionals and suffragettes. Reservations are required. Epiphany Episcopal Bazaar

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 15, at Epiphany Episcopal Church, 212 Central Avenue Summerville, there will be a Chili Cookoff. $10 all you can eat. There will also be a Bake Sale, White Elephant Sale, Crafts Sale and books for Sale. Hotdogs, chips, soups, soda/water, T-Shirts and much more for purchase.

Pictures with Santa

From noon to 4 p.m. on Dec. 16, the Teresa Law & Company with Realty One Group Coastal will have free pictures with Santa, at the BlackBerry Creek Pavillion on Rabbit Hill Road. The event will also be collecting items for the Dorchester Paws SPCA.

Reece’s Legacy

Now through Dec. 14 Reece’s Legion is asking for donations for Reece’s Lego Legacy Drive. Reece is a 6-year-old battling pediatric medulloblastoma cancer. He is collecting new Lego sets for all the kids receiving cancer treatment at the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Donations can be dropped off or mailed directly to Reece’s Lego Legacy, 316 Seneca River Drive, Summerville, SC 29485. Follow Reece’s Legion on Facebook.

AARP meeting

AARP Summerville Chapter 2679 will meet at 11:30 a.m. on. Dec. 19 at the Faith Sellers Senior Center, 312 N. Laurel St. Lunch will be served at noon. Please bring a covered dish to share. Chicken will be provided. Wendall Nolan will be the entertainment.

Alston Gala 2018

The Alston High Legacy presents at 7 p.m. on Dec. 26, the Alston Homecoming Gala 2018 at the Wyndham Garden Summerville, 120 Holiday Drive, Summerville. Dressy attire. $30 per person.

Volunteers needed

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide needs volunteers for next year to assist in preparing FREE income taxes for the elderly and others who need help with their income taxes in Goose Creek, Summerville and Moncks Corner. There are also leadership positions available such as Client Facilitators. Training is provided on a self-paced basis with individual assistance as needed. There is a one week orientation in December and two weeks of training in January. We ask volunteers to be ready to provide one half day or more per week from Feb. 4 through April 12, 2019. Day of Wellness

From 2-6 p.m. on Feb. 16 at Coastal Coffee Roasters, 108 E. 3{sup}rd{/sup} Street, Summerville, a Day of Wellness to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will be held. There will be wellness professionals from the community as well as yoga classes and chair massages. The event is to raise awareness and funds for the AFSP.

Project Linus
