Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers released the name of the woman killed following an incident Sunday morning.
Brouthers said 33 year old Megan Walters Jenkins of Summerville died Sunday following a collision on Highway 78 near Southern Drive.
She is scheduled to undergo autopsy at MUSC on Wednesday. The South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the collision.
Troopers said the driver of an SUV and Jenkins were both heading eastbound. Walters-Jenkins was riding a bicycle when she was struck. Troopers said the driver of the SUV is charged with driving too fast for conditions.
Megan Jenkins worked with Dorchester District Two as a school counselor at Ashley Ridge High School.
District Two spokesperson Pat Raynor sent a out a statement on Monday.
“The Dorchester District Two family is deeply saddened by the loss of Megan Jenkins who was a dedicated school counselor loved by students and school staff. The district extends heartfelt sympathy to Megan’s family and the entire Ashley Ridge High School family.”
