Dorchester District Two

Dorchester District Two schools have announced their 2019 Teachers of the Year. Twenty-five teachers have been selected by their respective schools for this honor and will now participate in the annual District Teacher of the Year selection process.

Teachers of the Year include: Kayla Williams, Alston-Bailey Elementary; Sarah Osburn, Alston Middle; Victoria Merritt, Ashley Ridge High; Paula Luciano, Beech Hill Elementary; Stephanie Baird, DuBose Middle; Melissa Poelker, Dr. Eugene Sires Elementary; Laura Bruce, Eagle Nest Elementary; Felicia Lawrence, Flowertown Elementary; Amy Thomas, Fort Dorchester Elementary; Robin Vannoy, Fort Dorchester High; Drew Hensley, Givhans Alternative Program; Joseph Golden, Gregg Middle; Robin VonKeller, Joseph R. Pye Elementary; Jenna Bohannon, Knightsville Elementary; Alicia Patton, Newington Elementary; Miren Gomez, Oakbrook Elementary; Andrew Bishop, Oakbrook Middle; Larry Wigfall, River Oaks Middle; Rhonda Arnold, Rollings Middle School of the Arts; Sharon Cross, Sand Hill Elementary; Lisa West, Spann Elementary; Marie Kornas, Summerville Elementary; Deborah Somerville, Summerville High; Kari Miller, William M. Reeves, Jr. Elementary; and Tabitha Golder, Windsor Hill Arts Infused Elementary.

“Congratulations to these Master Teachers for this extraordinary honor,” Superintendent Joe Pye said in a press release from the district. “There is no question that the quality of our teaching staff in all district schools is largely responsible for our students’ success year in and year out.”

Each Teacher of the Year will submit nomination packets to the district, and five honor teachers will be chosen by a selection committee. A committee of community members and educators will select the Dorchester School District Two Teacher of the Year for 2019 from among the five honor teachers. All Teachers of the Year will be honored at a celebration on May 10th at Ashley Ridge High School during Teacher Appreciation Week. The highlight of this event will be the announcement of the 2019 Dorchester School District Two Teacher of the Year.

The district Teacher of the Year will represent Dorchester School District Two in the South Carolina Teacher of the Year program in 2020.
