Dorchester District Two

Dorchester School District Two will celebrate academic excellence with the 2018 Academic Awards Programs to be held in October. In its 23rd year, this unique program will recognize the academic achievement of 996 high school students from Ashley Ridge High School, Fort Dorchester High School, and Summerville High School.

Academic Award winners will be honored in three separate ceremonies at the individual schools as follows:

  • Ashley Ridge High School took place on Oct. 1
  • Fort Dorchester High School will take place on Oct. 9
  • Summerville High will take place on Oct. 16

All three programs will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Academic Awards Program was established to celebrate the achievement of high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors whose academic average for the previous school year was 90 or above. This year, 241 of these students will also receive the Board of Trustees Award given to students earning a grade of A in every subject.

Each of the honored students will receive a medal, designed and struck especially for the Academic Awards Program. Seniors receive a gold medal, juniors a silver medal, and sophomores a bronze medal. In addition, students will also receive an academic letter for his or her respective school. Organizations and businesses in the community have sponsored this event from its inception with their generous donations.

Students being honored were provided the opportunity to name one teacher who has been an inspiration during his or her school career. This year 296 teachers have been named as a Special Teacher and have been invited to attend the ceremonies.

Also, a senior academic award recipient from each high school will each receive a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by area businesses. The scholarship winners will be announced during the programs.
