The midway at the Coastal Carolina Fair

Dorchester District 2 teamed up with Charleston Exchange Club to have the first DD2 Day at the Coastal Carolina Fair on November 5th, 2019.

All of the students from the districts received free admission to the fair from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM.

Students from 12 of the district schools preformed on the Parkway Stage and in the Cultural Arts Building.

The community was treated to performances by show choirs, steel drum bands, string orchestras, high school marching bands and middle and elementary choirs.

The culinary program students presented demonstrations at the Culinary Arts Building. Also the students served dishes that they made to fair attendees.

Students from the Ashley Ridge High School agricultural program were in the agricultural building with animals from the Ashley Ridge High Fox Ridge Farm. One of the main attractions were the Kunekune pigs which they have been raising for most of the year.

Superintendent Joseph Pye said that DD2 Day was entirely for the students. He said that the students deserved the opportunity to show off all of their hard work.

" I saw this as a victory for students to get to showcase their talents," Pye said.

Pye said that the fair does not have the same meaning to students today that it once did in the past. He hopes that the DD2 day will spark interest in the fair once again.
