Police collecting school supplies, hosting Cones With a Cop event

Summerville Police Department is planning a chill end-of-summer hangout for local students before they head back to school next month.

The event, set for 5-7 p.m. July 31 at Dairy Queen at 1525 Old Trolley Road, will be the culmination of the agency's Back-to-School Supply Drive. Police have been collecting school supplies at agency headquarters at 300 West Second North Street.

Officers encourage community members of all ages to come mingle with them and drop off school supplies.

The first 100 people will also receive a free ice cream cone.

Dorchester District Two starts classes on Aug. 19.
