It is often said that the best way to learn is through experience and the Summerville High School Naval JROTC took that to heart on their recent trip to Parris Island.
From June 24th to 26th, the 28 students lived in the same barracks as United States Marine Corps recruits, viewed the Iwo Jima Memorial and the USMC Museum.
The students also took part in an obstacle course, a Leadership Reaction Course and marksmanship practice using M-16 rifles at virtual targets.
The students took part in some Marine Corp training and also ate food from the mess hall.
The students said that the experience was rewarding.
The experience also opened the eyes to an option to consider after high school graduation.
