Actor Evan Towell is connected with the Millie Lewis Models & Talent agency here. He is originally from Cleveland, Ohio, but has been in this region since 2015.

Towell has been acting since 2015. His movies include three made in 2017. One was “Pushed Away.” He was also an extra in HBO’s comedy, “Vice Principals,” which was shot here in Charleston. He also was in “I, Tonya.” In 2019, he was the cowboy in “The Cowboy Soliloquy,” directed by Summerville’s own Aaron Paderewski in which he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at The 48 Hour Film Festival in Savannah. Now, Evan is going to be in Shining Light Pictures and Barbhouse Production’s film, “The Fetus,” a sci-fi movie which will be filmed in the Scranton, PA area in August. He is also represented by the Newton Agency in Florida.

Regan: How old were you when you started acting?

Towell: Since 2015. I was 24 years old when I got signed with my first agency, Millie Lewis. After I got my start there, I started taking audition classes with Carey Anderson. I was originally cast as the lead character of Ian in the Millie Lewis produced film, "Where’s Stephanie?" I learned a lot about myself as an actor working on it. I was later recast due to scheduling conflicts. I also studied the Meisner Technique and Method Acting with my acting coach Anthony Paderewski. I went on to act in many other short and student films. Acting has taught me to be more self-aware and to be more confident in my choices as an actor. I have also taken classes in Los Angeles and learned scene analysis from Jeff Seymour and studied On Camera Acting Techniques under William Mark McCullough in Savannah. To prepare for more active roles, I learned hand-to-hand combat, Krav Maga, weapons handling and tactics under Matt Clanton in Atlanta.

R: Was anyone else in your family into theatre or film?

T: No one in my family has worked in the industry, but I try to surround myself with good friends in the acting business. My dad always told me that it is more fun to play the game than to watch the game on T.V. That has always motivated and inspired me to pursue my career.

R: Have you performed on both stage and in film? TV commercials? Radio spots?

T: I did the TV spot for Carpet Wholesalers, which was a spoof on Tom Cruise gliding/dancing in the living room in “Risky Business.” I have also done commercials for Parkers and Wood Laundry Soap.

R: Have you done any singing or musicals or comedies or are your roles all straight serious acting ones?

T: I did a comedy last year where I played a character named Joel in the movie, "Ben's Big Night" directed by Rodney Smith. I love doing both serious roles and comedic ones and I always look forward to doing something new. I met actor Kevin Bacon once at a party and he told me the first thing I have to do if I want to succeed as an actor is to accept and expect the rejection and just fall in love with the journey.

R: Are you films available for the public to see via YouTube or another online outlet?

T: Yes, you can view my short films "Pushed Away" and "Boneyards,” as well as my demo reels are on my YouTube channel Evan Towell and on my IMDB page: IMDB.me/evantowell.

R: What is coming up for you?

T: Well, I recently booked a role in a science fiction horror movie called "The Fetus" where I will be playing the younger version of legendary horror actor Bill Moseley from "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2" and "House of 1,000 Corpses". I am also producing and acting in an independent film with my good friend Sean Ohlman called, "Boneyards." That is going to film in Jacksonville, FL later this year. The film is a crime thriller about three drug running surfer brothers. It is a tale of brotherhood and betrayal that focuses on the parallels between unresolved childhood trauma and violence/criminal behavior. You can follow the production of the film on Instagram: @boneyards2020.
