National Read Across America Month was established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to help get children excited about reading.

Summerville Medical Center recently welcomed the Summerville Rotary Club to its Level II Special Care Nursery to read to the youngest and smallest children.

Thanks to the Rotary’s “Gift of Literacy” program, Summerville Medical Center’s Special Care Nursery houses a library with various English and Spanish books for parents, volunteers and staff to read to newborns.

Each nursery graduate also goes home with a copy of “Brown Bear” to begin their library.
