Dang Tran

Cane Bay setter Dang Tran (5) guided the Cobras to a Region 6-5A championship and an appearance in the Class 5A Lower State title game.

Cane Bay High School senior Dang Tran is the seventh annual Best of Prep Sports boys volleyball player of the year.

Tran, a setter, helped guide the Cobras to the Region 6-5A title and an appearance in the Class 5A Lower State championship match during the fall. He reeled in region player of the year honors after the Cobras finished 17-3.

“He’s by far the best setter in our region and probably the state,” Cane Bay coach Brian Lariviere said. “He’s very smart. He’s always looking across the net and seeing where the advantage is. He’s on the same page with his hitters. Communicating in volleyball is very important. The guy is crafty. Teams didn’t know where he was going to set up our hitters.”

The Cobras went on a 14-game win streak after starting off the year with a 3-2 mark.
