Summerville sophomore Katie Guilliam was 3-for-3 at the plate April 4 with a grand slam, triple, double and six RBIs.

Summerville got right down to business April 4 during its Region 7-5A opener.

The Green Wave opened region play on the softball diamond by hosting Ashley Ridge and pushed seven runs across the plate in the bottom of the first inning. Summerville finished with eight hits as it claimed a 13-0 shutout.

Shortstop and leadoff hitter Katie Guilliam hit a grand slam and also reached base on a triple, a double and when she was hit by a pitch. She finished with six RBIs and scored two runs. Sophomore Daphne Frady had a solo shot, her first varsity home run. Melanie Edwards, Hope Chase, Caroline Waring and Alex Siwik had the other Green Wave hits. Zoe Pavlunenko and Siwik both had two RBIs.

In the circle, Ansley Bennett and Frady combined to throw a one-hitter, striking out seven batters while only walking two.

Center fielder Elizabeth Ray had the sole Ashley Ridge hit.

The next night, Summerville hosted St. James and battled for a 1-0 victory to improve to 15-0 on the season. Chase entered the circle and pitched a no-hitter.

Summerville travels to region foe Fort Dorchester for a 7 p.m. game April 8 and hosts Wando at 7 p.m. April 10 and region foe West Ashley at 7 p.m. April 12.
