The Lady Swamp Foxes claimed a pair of region wins on the soccer pitch this week.

On April 9, Ashley Ridge defeated Fort Dorchester 3-2 in The Swamp. Ashley Ridge had dropped its two prior Region 7-5A matches so the win keeps the team’s hopes of capturing a region title alive.

“We kept our intensity high and took more shots today than we did in our last couple of games,” Ashley Ridge co-captain Anna Litchfield said. “Most of us have been together for a while so we work well together especially when we play with high intensity.”

Senior Natalie Freer and junior Kierstyn Davenport scored the Ashley Ridge goals. Junior Sarah Lopez and freshman Marlee Christmas both had an assist.

“We did a good job controlling the midfield,” Ashley Ridge co-captain Addison Fugate said. “We also really attacked the ball today.”

As a treat for the school’s student body, school officials moved game time for the match up from 7 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. so students who chose to could be released early and attend the match. School officials said they sold more than 600 tickets so the stands were packed.

On April 11, Ashley Ridge defeated West Ashley 2-1 in The Swamp to avenge a prior loss to the Wildcats. The Swamp Foxes improved to 7-5 on the season with a 3-2 mark in the region. Ashley Ridge has an opportunity to avenge another loss at 7 p.m. April 19 when it has a rematch at Summerville.
