It is a tradition in Summerville for local business leaders to gather for the Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce’s annual Holiday Breakfast.

The event comes with a buffet, entertainment by Dorchester District Two students and usually wraps up attendees singing holiday carols.

Business leaders gathered Dec. 7 for the 27th annual Holiday Breakfast at Spann Elementary.

Much of the program was run by students as well; Spann Elementary third-grader Mia Abreu led the Pledge of Allegiance and fourth-grader Austin Fuller gave the invocation. Summerville Elementary fifth-grader Pierre Jennings recognized event sponsors.

The presenting sponsor was Allegra. “Frosty” sponsors included Agape Hospice of the Lowcountry, Charleston Southern University, The Summerville Journal Scene, TBC Corporation and Wingate by Wyndham at Charleston Southern University. “Rudolph” sponsors include Argos USA, Milder Properties, SunTrust Bank and Synovus.

The event included performances by the DuBose Middle’s steel drum band; Rollings Middle School of the Arts singers and Spann Elementary singers. Students had attendees join in a medley of Christmas carols at the end.

Each year the Chamber makes a donation to a local cause through its holiday breakfast; this year the Chamber donated $500 to the Summerville Miracle League. Edward Tupper, board chairman of the Chamber, recognized the league during his closing remarks.

“This is a wonderful...cause that y’all do,” Tupper said.
