Coroner: Car fatally strikes man crossing Dorchester Road

A Summerville man was fatally struck while crossing Dorchester Road on Fourth of July, according to the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office.

Coroner Paul Brouthers identified Marc Edgin, 43, as the victim. He was struck around 10:35 p.m. near Sawmill Court.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Edgin was crossing the roadway, traveling north, when a 2004 Acura, traveling west, struck Edgin, who died on scene.

Devion Harrison, 24, of Round O was driving the vehicle, troopers said. Harrison was wearing a seat belt and did not sustain any injuries.

Because the pedestrian was found to be illegally in the roadway, no charges were filed against the driver, according to Highway Patrol.
