A Grayco Hardware & Home will have a soft opening on Nov. 13 at its new location in the Knightsville Crossing Shopping center,1605 Central Avenue. A grand opening date is to be announced. The family-owned hardware store is filling the space that sat vacant after Mr. K’s Piggly Wiggly closed in 2017.
Grayco Hardware & Home CEO Herb Gray said the 33,000 square-foot-store will feature a lawn and garden section, home decor and gifts section and a full hardware store to service both do-it-yourself projects and contractor needs. He said the store’s exceptional customer service makes the brand stand out among other big box retailers.
“A lot of people say Grayco Hardware & Home is a little bit of a step back to old hardware stores and general stores,” Gray said.
Gray’s father, Richard Gray opened the first Grayco store in Beaufort in 1961. Grayco has expanded and since opened Hardware & Home store locations in Beaufort, Hilton Head Island and Summerville. Grayco Building Center stores have locations in Beaufort, Bluffton and Ridgeland, and the Grayco Window & Door Center has locations in Savannah and Augusta.
Gray said he was attracted to the Knightsville area because it is a growing community and has a need for Grayco’s merchandise and customer service. He said the location inside Knightsville Crossing was very convenient for residents. A new Parker’s Kitchen gas station opened this year inside of the shopping center and other landscaping and signage improvements have also been made to the area.
