Nurses put in extra effort around each holiday to make special onesies for newborns born on holidays at Trident's Summerville Medical Center. This Halloween is no exception. NICU nurses spent more than 55 hours making costumes by hand for the babies staying in the neonatal intensive care unit.

“Often our NICU babies are with us for days or weeks, even months, so our nurses try to make the holidays special for their families,” said Summerville Medical Center spokeswoman Kelly Bowen.

With the theme, “Down on the Farm at the Big Red Barn,” NICU nurses created 17 costumes including a piglet, a pumpkin, ear of corn, scarecrow, sunflower, and a red barn backdrop.

“It is a true testament to the culture of family at Summerville Medical Center, and how our NICU families are treated like our own,” Bowen said.
