Rob MacDonald, head of the stormwater department for the Town of Summerville, was suspended with pay, after his arrest in a domestic violence incident.

On Wednesday, during a special called meeting to discuss the Unified Development Ordinance, town council members first met in executive session to discuss a personnel matter.

After more than an hour and a half, council members left executive session and voted to authorize the town administrator to suspend MacDonald with pay pending the resolution of a personnel matter.

Town officials did not say how long the suspension will last.

According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, MacDonald was arrested in connection to a case of domestic violence of the third offense in Walterboro on July 18.

Town officials did not comment on whether or not the arrest led to MacDonald’s suspension.
