The LowCountry Animal Rescue network of foster homes takes in approximately 400 abandoned, lost, neglected or abused dogs and cats (and an occasional hamster, ferret and guinea pig) annually. The charity provides an array of medical assistance to the animals in its care ranging from spaying/neutering and vaccination shots to providing a microchip for every animal before it is adopted. It works closely with local SPCA chapters on issues affecting animals and accepts many of the animals for which SPCAs cannot afford medical care.

The organization also educates the public on spaying and neutering to help prevent overpopulation and promote responsible pet ownership. It is often called upon to help in animal hoarding and abuse cases.
