The Green Wave Boys Golf team placed fourth at this year’s Class AAAAA Lower State Qualifier, which is the highest the team has placed in several years.

Lexington won the Lower State match at Wescott Plantation last week with a team score of 305. The top eight teams from both the Upper State and Lower State qualifiers plus the top four individual golfers not on one of the top teams advanced to play in the 5A state championship match May 13-14. Results were not available at press time.

Rounding out the Top 8 teams for the Lower State were Wando (306), James Island (309), Summerville (315), Conway (316), Chapin (324), St. James (331) and River Bluff (333).

Caleb Keyes led the way for Summerville, coming in with a round of 76. Jack Robinson was just behind with a round of 77. Trailing for Summerville were AJ Martino (79), Payne Rutherford (83) and Griffin Clower (84).

Fort Dorchester missed qualifying for the state match by only seven strokes. The Patriots placed 10th at the qualifier. Patriots’ golfer Andy Messersmith had a round of 79 to qualify as an individual. Berkeley’s Cody Cloninger also qualified as an individual.
