Keur qualifies for U.S. Amateur Championship

R.J. Keur is preparing for this summer’s U.S. Amateur

Championship.

Summerville golfer Julian “R.J.” Keur recently earned medalist honors at a U.S. Amateur Championship sectional qualifier.

Keur, a former standout for the Fort Dorchester High School, Charleston Southern University and University of Alabama-Birmingham golf teams, won the July 15-16 qualifier at the Pete Dye Colleton River Course in Bluffton, S.C. He followed a round of 69 on the first day of the tournament with a round of 68 to grab one of only four qualifying spots that were up for grabs.

Keur’s seven-under par 137 score edged out Andrew Orischak of Hilton Head’s 138. Jordan Garner of Australia, with a 139, and Jonathan Brightwell of Charlotte, with a 140, also qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship scheduled for Aug. 12-18 at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in North Carolina.
