Ashley Ridge, Fort Dorchester and Summerville each grabbed a top honor on the 2019 Region 8-AAAAA Baseball All-region list.
After leading the Patriots to their first region championship in many years, Fort Dorchester’s Ronnie Sayer has been named the Region Coach of the Year. This year’s Baseball Region Player of the Year honor is being split between Ashley Ridge pitcher/infielder Chris Watkins and Summerville catcher Cole Messina. Fort Dorchester’s Donovan Accerbi and Messina are the sole sophomores to be named to the all-region team, which also includes eight seniors and three juniors.
Other’s receiving all-region honors are Ashley Ridge’s Hayden Sturm and James Lisi, Fort Dorchester’s Jalen Vasquez, Pat Monteith and Sean Gould, Summerville’s AC Heaton and Brodie Blanton, West Ashley’s Robbie Brown and Chace Cooper, and Stall’s Saveon McNeil.
Ashley Ridge and Summerville tied for second place in the region this season. The Swamp Foxes earned the No. 2 playoff seed on a tiebreaker and were eliminated from the playoffs with a loss to St. James in the district finals.
Fort Dorchester and Summerville also advanced to the district finals. The Patriots were eliminated with a loss to Dutch Fork while the Green Wave won its district to advance to the Lower State round of the playoffs. Summerville then fell to River Bluff and Dutch Fork to be eliminated.
