Coming off a lite week, the Fort Dorchester varsity basketball teams are looking to have a strong start in region play.
The Fort Dorchester Boys, ranked ninth in the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association Class AAAAA Boys Rankings released Jan. 7, dropped their only game last week. The Patriots fell 55-35 to unranked Goose Creek.
The Gators set the tone of the game early and the Patriots (12-3) couldn’t get in rhythm to bounce back.
Antoine Parker led the Fort with a game-high 15 points while Davion Joyner added 7 points for the Patriots. Parker also had 5 rebounds and 6 steals. Rod Simmons had three blocks early in the contest, but had to exit the game with an injury. When he returned later in second half the momentum was gone.
Shakarian Nelson led Goose Creek with 11 points.
The Fort Dorchester Girls lost their game against Goose Creek 46-34. The Lady Gators (12-3) are ranked fourth in the latest rankings while the Lady Patriots (8-6) are unranked.
Aujea Bowman had a game-high 19 points and Ashleigh Goings added 6 points for Fort Dorchester. Kolia Adams led Goose Creek with 12 points and Janise Shaw added 11 points for the Lady Gators.
Both Fort Dorchester teams open Region 8-AAAAA play this week.
Fort Dorchester hosts Stall at 7 p.m. Jan. 21 and then the Patriots hit the road for games at Ashley Ridge Jan. 24 and at Summerville Jan. 28. The teams return home Jan. 31 to host West Ashley at 7 p.m.
