The Pinewood Prep Girls Golf team had a 3-1 start this season.

“Our goal after the first couple of matches was to get into the 180’s and we accomplished that,” Pinewood coach Greg Baechtle said. “Our next goal is to get down into the 170’s. Looking at the talent we have on the team I fully expect us to reach that goal very quickly.”

The Panthers opened play on Aug. 22 hosting First Baptist and Porter-Gaud. Pinewood shot 192 to defeat Porter-Gaud by 18 shots. First Baptist posted a score of 189 to nip Pinewood by three shots.

Freshman Aubrey Merryman led the Panthers with a round of 43 and was backed up by Anna Parker who posted a 44. Karla Correa added a 51 and Leighanna Sawer rounded out the scoring with a 54.

The Panthers visited Summerville High School for a match and came away with a 194-206 win at Miler Country Club. Correa had the low score for the Panthers with a 44. Parker shot 46, Merryman 48 and Sawer finished with a 56.

Pinewood also hosted the Cane Bay Cobras and had their best outing of year, shooting 183 at Pine Forest Country Club. Correa was the match medalist with a 42. Sawer posted her best round of the year with a 46. Merryman added a 47 and Parker rounded out the scoring with a 48. The Cobras posted 223.
