Isabelle Varnado has been a key part of the Fort Dorchester Girls Soccer Team’s recent success.
The Patriot senior is a three-time all-region selection, two-time Charleston Rotary Girls Soccer MVP and the 2017 Patriots Offensive MVP. During the team’s first 16 games of the 2018 season, Varnado scored 12 goals and had eight assists.
Varnado has been selected to play in the 2018 Clash of the Carolinas all-star match that pits the top players from South Carolina against the top players from North Carolina. She has also been named the Summerville Communications Girls Soccer Athlete of the Year.
“That is great and very well deserved,” Fort Dorchester coach Taryn Floyd said upon finding out Varnado received the honors. “I haven’t seen a player like Izzy since Caitlyn Reilly.”
Varnado, a team captain as a junior and senior, scored the 62nd goal of her high-school career during a 3-1 Patriot victory at James Island April 17. She finished that match with 68 career assists.
Two years ago, Varnado helped the Fort Girls to one of their most successful seasons. The Patriots finished with a 15-4-1 record after falling 2-1 in overtime to James Island in the third round of the state playoffs.
Earlier this school year, Varnado signed to play at the University of Alabama Birmingham.
