Jalen Slawson is one of the most well-rounded basketball players in the area.

Whether the situation called for someone to D Up, attack the rim or hit a key 3, the 6-foot-7 forward was often the player Pinewood Prep turned to over the past few seasons, and Slawson is who Summerville Communications turned to for its Boys Basketball Player of the Year honor.

As a senior, Slawson averaged 14.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.9 steals and 4.1 blocks per game. In November, the Panther signed with the Furman University Men’s Basketball program.

“We feel that Jalen is well prepared for the road ahead and will continue to develop in our culture,” Furman University coach Bob Richey said. “His personality will bring a great dynamic to our team and his experience in challenging environments will bring value in his growth process. We look forward to having him on campus in June.”

During his first three seasons at Pinewood, Slawson has averaged 15.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game, while shooting 50 percent from the field and 33 percent from beyond the arc. He was also a receiver for the Pinewood Football team and has received All-state and All-region honors in both sports.
