Katy Torgerson’s contributions to the Swamp Fox Volleyball program increased every year she was with the team.
Torgerson, a three-time varsity letterman, ends her high-school career as a North-South All-star and Summerville Communications Volleyball Athlete of the Year.
“Katy is an overall fantastic student-athlete,” Ashley Ridge coach Chi-Chi Hurley said. “She is a straight-A student who demonstrates amazing leadership ability. She has been our team captain for the last two seasons. Her ability on the court to keep her team together and focused showed throughout her volleyball career.”
As a senior, Torgerson had 210 kills, 95 blocks, 37 service aces and 131 digs. During her Swamp Fox career, she had 377 kills and 287 blocks.
“She is powerful and smart on the front row,” Hurley said. “She knows when to kill the ball, tip the ball, and swipe the ball. Her blocking ability is built around her ability to read her opponents and anticipate their next move.”
Torgerson has signed to play collegiately for Erskine College. Hurley anticipates she will shine there as well.
“Katy is a coach’s dream,” she said. “She is coachable, sweet, tough, caring, compassionate, passionate, reliable, strong, courageous and an overall remarkable young lady.”
