Schools capture all-region track honors

Summerville’s Bryce Ravenell has been named the Region Player of the Year for Boys Track.

Summerville claimed two of the top honors for the 2019 Region 8-AAAAA Track and Field All-Region list and Ashley Ridge claimed another.

Summerville senior Bryce Ravenell has been named the Region Player of the Year for Boys Track. Ravenell broke the 35-plus-year old SHS high jump record with a 6-08.25 mark at this year’s Region 8-AAAAA Championships meet.

West Ashley’s Alexandra Simpson has been named the Region Player of the Year for Girls Track. She claimed a region championship in both the 100-meter Hurdles and Triple Jump.

Summerville’s Kevin Bellush has been named the Region Coach of the Year for Boys Track. Ashley Ridge’s Jeff Plane has been named the Region Coach of the Year for Girls Track.

Other Summerville athletes receiving Region 8-AAAAA All-region honors include Will Rothemich, Lizzie Naval, Angel Frank, Reilly Gobin, Ethan Kimberling, Darren Hinds, Brandon Savela, CJ Pollmun, Corey McDougal, Mark Mazyck, Adam McKanna and Zavier Davis.

Representing Fort Dorchester on the All-Region Team are Tre’shaun Middleton, Dwayne Curnell, Dawson Wright, Jerald Howard, Valencia Carter, Domonique Edmondson, Taylor Smith, Shaniece Hamliton and Kynnedy Dennis.

Representing Ashley Ridge on the All-Region list are Josh Baroody, Katherine Jackson, Betsy Erickson, Anna Lloyd, Winter Curry, Nia Portis, Jenna Patterson and Jessica Johnson.

Also representing West Ashley on the All-Region list are DeAndre Davis, Casey Brown, Gregg Gethers, Dwalynn Deleston, Abby Felder, Destiny Green Emorie Thrasher and Tanzania Watson.
