Both the Ashley Ridge and Fort Dorchester girls’ soccer teams secured a home playoff berth this season.

The Patriots defeated Summerville 3-1 last week to capture the No. 2 seed for Region 8-AAAAA and push Summerville into the region’s No. 3 spot. Senior Mo Snype scored all three Patriot goals.

“Her first two goals were beautiful,” Fort Dorchester coach Taryn Floyd said. “The first one was a one-on-one and the second was, as my girls like to say, a banger shot. She is such a strong player and she knew what it was going to take to win tonight. We have been on the road for the playoffs the last two years so we needed this.”

The Class AAAAA Soccer playoffs are underway this week so the victory over a rival school came at a good time. Floyd said she is pleased with her team’s effort against Summerville.

“We are playing as a team,” she said. “They connected well all over the field tonight. We have moved some players around and everything just seemed to click tonight.”

The Ashley Ridge Girls Soccer team clinched the Region 8-AAAAA Championship last week to claim a No. 1 seed for the playoffs. The Swamp Foxes defeated Stall 9-0 and Fort Dorchester 4-3 to finish the regular season with a 16-6-1 record with an 8-0 mark in region play.

The second round of the girls’ 5A soccer playoffs is scheduled for May 1 and the third round is scheduled for May 3.
