SCC achievements

Michael Dean had a hole in one on Summerville Country Club’s Hole 11 May 14. Dean used a 4 hybrid to drive the ball 135 yards and ace the hole. It was witnessed by Mike Kochamba and Anita Dean.

John Cato shot a 77, two strokes under his age, at Summerville Country Club May 10.

Chick Miler Invitational

Summerville Country Club will host its 46th annual Chick Miler Invitational May 24-26. The club will also host its annual Father-Son/Daughter Tournament June 22-23.

Town of Summerville Sports

Registration is open for 2019 summer youth soccer with the Town of Summerville. Practices will start in early June. Games will be played Monday through Thursday evenings and/or Saturday mornings beginning in mid-June at Jerry Blackwell Sports Complex at Gahagan Park. This is the Town’s newest sports program.

Registration is $45 for Town of Summerville residents and $65 for non-residents. Those interested can register at https://secure.rec1.com/SC/summerville-sc/catalog. The Town of Summerville Parks & Recreation Department is looking for sponsors for the program. The sponsorship form can be found online. Green Wave Youth Basketball Camp

The annual Green Wave Youth Basketball Camp for rising third-graders through rising ninth-graders, male and female, is scheduled for June 17-20 at Summerville High School.

The camp will run Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to noon with a cost of $100. The camp is designed to offer players an affordable basketball experience that provides tools to improve skills while also allowing them to have fun.

Camp staff includes Green Wave Boys Head Coach David Long, SHS assistant coaches and returning Green Wave players who will teach not only the principles of basketball, but also of sportsmanship, leadership and citizenship.

All proceeds will help send the Summerville Boys’ Basketball teams to various summer camps. For information, contact Long at dlong@dorchester2.k12.sc.us.

All-American Basketball Camp

Registration is open for the All-American Basketball Camp. Designed for boys and girls in grades three through nine, the camp is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. until noon June 10-14 at Knightsville United Methodist Church. Little Patriots Basketball Camp

Registration is open for the Little Patriots Basketball Camp. Geared for boys age 7-14, the camp is scheduled for June 24-26 at Fort Dorchester High School’s main gym. Sessions will run from 8 a.m. until noon and include daily guest speakers. Participants will receive instruction from FD Boys Basketball Coach Jacob Smith and other coaches in the area. Instructional drills will be ran by the FD Boy’s Coaching Staff, Mentoring Program, and varsity basketball players. Cost is $40 per camper. For more information, contact Smith at 803-837-0605.
