The Green Wave Boys Golf team placed 12th at this year’s Class AAAAA state championship match.

Rock Hill finished with a 585 team score to claim the 5A Boys Golf Championship. The top eight teams from both the Upper State and Lower State qualifying matches plus the top eight individual golfers not on one of those teams participated in the state-title match May 13-14.

Rounding out the Top 10 teams for the match were Mauldin (611), Dorman (611), Lexington (621), Spartanburg (621), Fort Mill (625), Boiling Springs (626), James Island (627), Wade Hampton (630) and Wando (635).

Summerville finished at 661. The 12th place finish is one place higher than the team placed at last year’s championship match.

AJ Martino led the way for the Green Wave, carding a 161 score to tie for 43rd place individually. Caleb Keyes was only a stroke behind to tie for 45th place. Jack Robinson (167) tied for 62nd place while Payne Rutherford (171) tied for 67th and Griffin Clower (189) tied for 86th place.

Fort Dorchester golfer Andy Messersmith, who qualified individually after the Patriots just missed qualifying as a team, had a two-day total of 166 at the state meet to tie for 57th place.
