The Summerville Family YMCA announced today that Christopher Sapp will serve as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective one month from now.

Sapp succeeded Gary Lukridge, who had served as CEO for the past 12 years and took a CEO position with the YMCA in Hartsville.

Sapp currently serves as Executive Director of the YMCA of South Palm Beach County-Boca Raton, Florida, a position he has held since 2009. He has more than 20 years of leadership and industry experience in urban site planning, membership development, operation management, strategic planning and community partnership building. According to Summerville Family YMCA officials, Sapp’s “impressive and successful” track record of executing significant initiatives and innovative ideas make him an ideal choice to lead the Summerville Family YMCA.

Dickie Miler, chair of the board of directors of the Summerville Family YMCA, said Sapp has a successful and impressive track record of executing significant initiatives and just as importantly, he epitomizes the spirit and heart of what the YMCA stands for.

“He is passionate about the mission and ministry of the Y, has a servant’s heart of leadership, empowers those who work with and around him, and is an incredible man of faith and integrity,” Miler said. “We are confident that Chris will provide the strong leadership and keen vision to guide the Y forward as it continues to be one of the major cornerstones of mission and service to our community.”

Sapp stated that he is humbled and grateful for the opportunity to lead such an outstanding organization that has made such a meaningful impact on the Summerville community.

“Summerville is such a dynamic and growing area, and the opportunities to better serve the health, wellness and recreational needs of the community are incredible,” Sapp said. “This is a great YMCA, and my family and I are privileged and blessed to be called to serve here.”

Sapp received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education, Cum Laude, from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and has numerous leadership associate degrees from the YUSA professionals network. Outside of his work, he is a self proclaimed mediocre golfer, recovering runner, and average keyboard player.
