Summerville High School sophomore Ansley Bennett is the sixth annual Best of Prep Sports Softball Player of the Year.
Bennett is a four-time varsity letterman who makes a difference with her arm, her bat and her glove. With her help, Summerville has remained one of the top teams in the state.
“Ansley gets out there in the circle and just gets after it; she is something else,” Summerville coach Heather Tucker said. “She is great on both sides of the ball and a great defender even when she isn’t in the circle.”
Through the first 19 games this season, Bennett had 24 hits including five doubles and 8 homeruns while driving in 22 runs and scoring 22 runs. She batted .480 with a .588 on base percentage.
She was 10-1 as a pitcher during that time, surrendering only 13 hits, 2 runs and 14 walks while striking out 124 batters to help Summerville to a 20-1 start with a 3-0 mark in Region 7-AAAAA.
Early in the season, Bennett was named the MVP for the 2023 Battle on the Bases tournament after she helped the Green Wave capture its second consecutive Battle on the Bases title.
She has earned multiple All-region honors and garnered All-state honors as a freshman after helping the Green Wave reach the Lower State Championship series. Bennett finished that season with a .556 batting average and .660 on base percentage with 43 hits including 14 homeruns, 17 doubles and two triples. She only struck out three times.
She is also a starter for the Summerville Volleyball team.
